I had a plate compactor at work that my customer couldn't get running, checked spark, fuel, air and then compression. Had forty pounds. Took a squirt can and put a little oil on top of the piston, checked comp and had 100 pounds!put plug back in and fired right up. Ran for two minutes or so pulled plug checked comp back to forty. So what is disappointing is you don't even think about rebuilding these engines with parts and labor your better off ordering new! What a throw away world we live in! If this was a k series 20 years ago no question it would be rebuilt!
My two cents! ![]()

Please don't get me started about the throw away society that we have evolved into.
I just don't have anything good to say about it.

It's only wasteful if you throw it out. Sounds like that plate compactor is gonna be the newest cub implement! Let's see.....remove the engine, install a pulley on the input shaft. Weld a sleeve hitch on one end, use a tiller mule drive and rear gearbox.....hehe

The plate compactor is getting repowered with a honda, and I'm a Hollander so I'm finding something to do with the robin Subaru I pulled off of it. If I rebuild it on my own time it might be worth saving but when the customer is paying 72 bucks an hour for labor it gets expensive fast!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
