Default Engine slow to throttle up

I've got a K321 on my 147 that's hesitant to throttle up. By that I mean when I let it run about 1/4 throttle and hit the linkage on the top of the carb it pauses for a second then throttles up. Is this normal, or could it be getting too much air some how? The shaft going into the carb has some slop (it's 40 years old, and it's worth mentioning that it's a Kohler carb not the walbro one). It runs great when it's running at a consistent speed, it's just slightly hesitant to throttle up when I hit the linkage quickly. Is there a bushing that goes around the shaft that goes into the top of the carb?

I've adjusted the screws on the top of the carb in the past per the manual.

Yeah, there's a bushing....

Servalite is the brand I use. I get them in packs of 10. You can buy individually if you want. Mine came from the local Do-It Best hardware store. Ace can get them too.

Here's a thread by DX3 on it too.

Did you try adjusting the carb. Sounds lean to me. (Which is the same as too much air.) But it may adjust out. IDK how loose your throttle shaft is.

Would a lousy gasket between the carb/engine do a similar type thing?

I know I've had the carb off before and remember the gasket wasn't in the greatest shape when I installed it again. I'm gonna start with the gasket replacement and then do a carb adjustment per the manual.

The carb adjustment wasn't necessary. After buying a 6 dollar gasket and putting it on she is much quicker to throttle up when I hit the lever at the top of the carb. Thanks

I'm thankful that's all it was. I still might do the throttle bushing down the road as it's not as tight as it could be, but for now, I'm pleased with the way it is.
