I finally got around to replacing the cooling fan as the one that was in there had no fins left. I noticed that when disassembling the unit the flexible coupling was straight; however, after cleaning up everything and repainting I put the new fan on and started to assemble everything I noticed that the flexible coupling is wavy after tightening up the bolts. Now I realize this it rubber and putting bolts through is going to distort its shape some. It may straighten up some when the shaft gets pushed back to line up the hole for the roll pin in the front, but that is a small amount. Looking in the service manual the picture in there shows the flexible coupling and it is some what distorted as well, but mine seems worse than that and before I go any further I had to ask cause that is a bunch of work to have it messed up if something isn't right!

Every one ive ever seen has looked like you describe, to me its normal but others may have more onfo.

I have modified mine on my hydros. I use double flex discs on each end (when applicable). I drilled new coupler holes to accommodate same. I use 3/8" bolts long enough (1-1/2" IIRC) with Nylock Nuts to go through both discs. Then I tighten only to the point of being snug. After several years, mine are sill straight and work great.

The first thing I noticed reading your post was the mention of a " roll pin" in the drive shaft. I am reasonably sure it should be a solid "dowel pin". I did use a roll pin once on my narrow frame 105, and it sheared within a week. Maybe some better informed members will offer their insight ? I replaced my flex disc joint with a NOS part, and don't recall if it deformed or not. Good Luck, and happy trails. Steve (yeah tha's my name too)

Roland; Can the front steel coupler on a 105 be replaced with a flex disc ? I think I'm going to hate it if you say yes !

Seems to me, IIRC, there was an adaption that could be done. I'll look through my Library.

The pin in the Drive Shaft(s) is a Solid Dowel Pin.

That is something...I just spoke to the local CC Dealer and they told me the the pin that I took out (spiral Roll pin) is what is supposed to be in it! Now I am really flumoxxed LOL!!!! No matter first things first I have to double check my work to see if the shaft needs to go rearward a bit more! ARRGH
