Default Will a 14HP fit in a 1250?

Kind of a dumb question but I'm here at my shop working on the 1250 I think the 12 hp kohler I had in it jumped timing so I swapped it out with the 14 hp from a 1450 I had a while back. so my question is, will a 14hp engine fit in a 1250 with the same mounting brackets or do I have to swap the 1250's brackets with the 1450s? I'm at my shop as of right now working on it if any cub guys are within Jamestown, Busti NY area comon' down to the shop! any help is much appreciated ! I'd post some pictures but the shop computer is JUNK!

-Steve

It will fit. Mounting plates are the same.

I am 99.9% positive it will fit.

My 1650 as it turned out came with a 14 hp engine under the hood vs a 16 hp engine and it bolted right up. I've got a spare 16 and 12 hp block for these QL tractors and the oil pan is the same as far as I can tell between the 12, 14 and 16 hp engines, so I think you would be fine - same mounting, brackets, etc. One thing you might try if it's not to late is the cradle mod. I did that with my tractor and is a definite improvement.

Good luck,
Bill

I normally use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to line up one of the rear holes, then thread the bolt in part-way, do the same to the other side and then the front two are almost always good.

OKAY I have yet another question I got the engine in sadly looks like one of the engine bolt holes are stripped! BUT I have a solution? JB weld?? And the drive shaft will NOT fit back into place! I put the bronze ring back where its supposed to go but no luck with the driveshaft. Ive taken it out many times before but after a engine swap....it just simply will not fit. the 1250's or the 1450's drive shaft...

You may have to ream ( open up ) the bronze bushing. The way they are made is to have a press fit so it can be sized correctly after installation.

Best way to fix the oil pan is either a heli coil or "thread sert"
If you try the JB weld, make sure you put oil on the bolt you use so it doesn't stick to the bolt itself.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
