Default 1650 repower

Last fall, I picked up a 1650, that would not drive. I got a fair enough deal on it and freed up a some bound linkage, drove the tractor around, and it worked pretty good. I went ahead and did the cradle mod, replaced the broken fan (2x) an installed new rag joints.

I Picked up a front blade for it and pushed snow this past winter with it and began to notice some issues:
she smoked a little more on startup
if you turned her off, there was no starting until maybe the next day, and only with a jump
and she started using oil really bad

I decided to do a rebuild, but really wanted a repower (no BS though)
i bought the rebuild kit and dropped the k341 off at a machine shop to have the machining done. I still really wanted a repower though, particularly a diesel repower. low and behold, after the machinist began working on the engine I found a deal on a Kubota D722. Score!

yesterday (after spending some time assembling the k341) I lowered the Kubota into the frame, and it looks like it will fit nicely, but it doesn't look good for the side panels.

My challenges for the repower (that I know of so far)
fitting a radiator
PTO (I would really like it if possible)
side panels will not go on, I am obsessive about things looking like they left the factory, should i switch the grill out to a wideframe (non QL) grill.
where to put the fuel tank

Pictures will follow as the project actually starts moving on.

Suggestions are welcome

I'd love to see someone that puts an oversized motor in a QL have the side panels modified by a serious metalworking pro - someone who could add a bump or whatever is needed and make it blend nicely. It'd probably be a bit expensive, though!

Jessie James (on his motorcycle show) used to beat a piece of sheetmetal into a gas tank with a leather bag full of sand(?) and a hammer.

It might be possible to stretch a side panel like that for clearance.

That was my original plan, but the widest part of the engine is where the side panels have the lip in for the body line, i had even considered some fab work combining a set of side tins from a 482, I just dont think it will work out, ill have to mock it up again with more parts on and send upload some pics

I took some pictures today of the engine sitting in the frame. Unfortunately, I didnt think about trying to put the side panels on, until I was already out messing with it, and didnt have time to try to get them on and get pics

I see one problem with this.... Your going to have to put the motor in the other way.... It runs the opposite direction of your original motor. All diesel cubs, the motor is in "backwards".

I am not opposed to that, but it is my understanding that you can run the pump "backwards" by unbolting the face of the pump, and flipping it upside down. That was my plan. if someone knows a reason that cannot be done, or shouldn't, please step in and let me know.

Well, yes... That will work for the hydro. But you won't be able to run any attachments, they would run backwards. Besides, I've worked of MANY other machines with that diesel in them, and I have never seen an electric clutch on the splined front drive. No where to bolt the base for the magnet. However, there are clutches available for the other end.

I had not made it to thinking about pto rotation, glad you brought that up. do you have any pto clutches you would like to recommend?
