Hi,
I traded for this 147 a couple years ago. The motor in it was blown. Im putting a replacemnt 14hp in it from my brothers 105. I have everything hooked up. I put a battery on it and when you turn the key to the run position, it starts turning the starter/gen. I thought the switch may be bad, so I swapped it with another. Does the same thing. So I swapped the solenoid and it does the same thing. The neutral switch is jumped out. Remove the jumper and it doesnt do anything. I looked at the wiring diagram in the tech section and everything looks to be wired right. So, what am I missing? Also, how does the switch for the electric lift wire up? Thanks for your help!! Stuart

Hi Roland,
Thanks for the reply! It's wired per the diagram you drew for the 1x6/1x7 style tractors. http://onlycubcadets.net/forum/showthread.php?t=35 The lights aren't wired right but the rest is... with the exception of the electric lift which isnt wired at all.. Thanks, Stuart

It really sounds like you have recently replaced the voltage regulator with an "incorrect" one.
Or you have the small wires in the wrong places on your S/G. Or you have a bare wire somewhere, perhaps one is pinched between the engine and frame. If it didn't do this before, and there were no changes made to any electrical components during the transplant, then it shouldn't be doing it now. If none of the above conditions exist, then I would suspect that something came loose during the transplant and didn't get put back together properly. Try putting the V/R from the 105 in it and see what happens.

A 105 does not have a 14 hp in it BTW are you sure it isn't a k241?
sounds like the contact in the vr is stuck together to me.You can disconnect all the wires on it as it is not needed for starting.

This 105 had replacement k321 in it. They cut the frame to install it. In exchange for the motor, I am fixing the frame and putting a k241 back in it. I put a vr off a parts 125 I had, so it may be incorrect or have stuck contacts in it. i checked the wiring and made sure the right wires went to the right terminals on the vr. This 147 did not have a motor in it when I got it. The original motor has a broke rod and is sitting on my shop floor. So, ill disconnect the vr and charge the battery and see what happens. The original vr had the rubber isolators broken thats why I swapped it out.
Thanks for the suggestions!! Stuart

Disconnect the BLUE wire from the V/R and insulate it so it won't touch anything. Then see if the problem is still there and let is know.

Hi,
After two weeks of training and Thanksgiving, I finally got a few minutes to look at it. I disconnected the blue wire from the vr and it still does the same thing. When I get the chance I'll disconnect the wire from the switch to the starter solenoid and I'll check and see if it shuts on and off with the switch by using a meter. Any other thoughts? Thank you for the suggestions!! Stuart

Hi Roland,
I don't know.. I swapped it with a switch that was in a 125 chassis I have.. The 125 was running before I pulled the motor to put in another mower. I wouldn't think both switches would be wrong especially since both were running before.. Stuart

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
