Mowed leaves and grass with my 124 today (besides beating my head over a Quiet Line) .
Boy, they are nice machines. The 124s. Having worked on both the early Cubs and the later QLs I can say I love the simplicity of the early ones. The QL I have been working on has been a nightmare when it comes to the electrics. Sometimes it would crank and others not, sometimes the lights would work, sometimes not... ![]() PO had bypassed the safety switch with a nest of mixed colored wires, First the fuse holder was dodgy, fixed that(I thought). The wire at first would read 12 volts going in and out..so I checked the amp meter, ok, got 12 volts. Got 12 to the light switch but nothing out. Took the switch out and cleaned it and got it working, but still no lights? Found out that the 12 volts showing didn't have the current to power the lights. ?????? ![]() ![]() All this in an area the size of a shoe box. Oh, and the hydro with it's valves and trunnion and fan... ![]() Will finish it tomorrow... ![]() Then I look at my Original and 124s and think how simple they are.

PS...
All the electrical problems started after I got the steering wheel off.. another problem, and redid the dash and steering looseness. I guess I stirred up the rust and the problems showed themselves when I put it back together..

Never had/worked on a QL, but this is why I love my N/F. Everything is right there; nothing complicated about it.

Once one masters a QL, anything on a NF will be a piece of cake. Yep, I will agree.
The NFs are few and far between around these parts.

I am not so sure of the simplicity of the NF,I have the boo boos to prove it.
Try changing a hydro fan,oil filter, flex disc, and even a simple addition of a 3 point can try the best in us,but I will take a NF over a QL any day. Just my 2 pieces of Bazooka bubble gum in 1960

Dad's got a 782 and I've never been impressed with the crazy amounts of tin on it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
