Default I may be picking up a Cadet 102 today, what to look for? *Now with pics*

Well I found a cub cadet 102 on Craigslist and can get it for $200. It comes with a deck and that's about it. the only issues are a brake that needs adjusting because it doesn't engage when you push the clutch and loose steering. other than that, I'm told it starts good and doesn't smoke. is there anything I should keep an eye out for, this machine is an hour away and I'd hate to waste a trip, any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Thumbs up

Good luck! Hope you get the 102. Normally, the drive line components would need repaired and replaced. Things like the steering components would need repaired and replaced. But that's not to say this 102 will need all those. Best advice can be had by a test run of the tractor and visual inspection.

A 102 is a very good garden tractor! Any part it may need can be found with in the OCC Sponsors, and the many for sale threads at reasonable costs. With this in mind, you can have this 102 in tip-top shape!

Where are you in IL. I just posted up a 100 in awesome shape I found on Craigslist for $225. It has headlights and tail light as well as a 3 point rear lift. Doesn't have a deck but they can be found fairly easily.

I got a few pictures of the machine in question, seems as though she's had a 2nd hand paint job Anyway, the guy assures me aside from the brake needing adjustment and loose steering, she's in tip top running shape.

The 102 doesn't look bad at all. May not be a bad deal. Looks like a front blade is on it. Has rear ags also Good luck and hope you're able to get it!

He said there's no blade with it and the rear tires are going to come off and be replaced with turf tires so bear that in mind, no chains or ag tires :-(

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
