Hello all!
I'm about to pull my hair out over my 1200. It has spark but not sure if its enough to fire. I checked the timing, the S mark is in the sight hole on the flywheel cover when the points just start to move. It's getting fuel because it will flood out the carb. Could it be that its just not a strong enough spark? Or could a bad condenser be the cause? The points have some pitting. I put a new coil on it. It is a Primeline from O'Reillys and I checked it before I installed it. Or how would it act if the exhaust valve was stuck open? The intake is moving, pulled the carb off and could see that. I even poured a few ounces of gas in then put the spark plug back in and still nothing! I got a new condenser and points haven't had time to put them in yet. Even ran a new wire from the points to the coil.I has least some compression can hear it when you spin it over with the spark plug out If the engine was completely worn out it I would think it would still start? What if the battery just doesn't have enough juice to spin it fast enough? If anybody has and ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much! ![]() ![]()

Did it just not start? ..... Like this only just happened? Cause it sounds like you flooded the crap out of it. If you dumped a "few ounces" of gas down the plug hole, you definitely did. Pull, the plug out, crank it with the gas off, choke off, carb wide open until it stops puffing gas out the plug hole. Get you a new spark plug, put it in and try starting it normally. You said you have spark, it should be a nice blue spark. Definitely new spark plug before you go replacing anything else.

Did you try a new plug? My 1650 did the same thing and it was the plug... a brand new one at that

What is the Voltage from the Positive (+) Terminal of the Ignition Coil, to the Battery ( -) Terminal when cranking the engine over ?

thanks for the replies,It wasn't puffing gas out the spark plug hole, the gas was puffing and spitting out from the carb as I was cranking on it. As for spark its not what it should be in my opinion.will get a new plug the one thats in there now I had mowed once with it a champion H10C from tractor supply. I will have to check what the voltage is tomorrow or this weekend,I need some time away from it..lol Any suggestions on a different spark plug?
Thanks again for your responses,I will get it running she ain't gonna win!

check the coil for corrosion & cracks @ the plug wire terminal. Mine was both corroded with white corrosion & the tower was half broke off hidden under the wire boot. change the Points & condenser also.

Finally got my tractor started! Readjusted the carb and reset the timing after putting in new points. It turned out I didn't need new points or condenser, although I went ahead and installed them kept the old ones for another engine. I felt kinda stupid, but it still wouldn't start after putting new points and condenser on it. I tried to use the battery charger to boost the battery, but it just wouldn't start. So I got the jumper cables out hooked them up to my truck Ford 7.3PSD it has two 1000 cranking amp batteries and she fired up! Still can't believe that's all it was, but stranger things have happened! Looks like I'm gonna need a better battery! Then my next project have an old k301AQS setting on my work bench to get running and maybe overhaul to put into the 1200 or the 1210. Thanks for all the advice, I appreciate it!

On the Kohler Ignition Coils, you need at least (at a bare minimum) 8 VDC to get enough spark to fire the engine. When you have a weak battery, during the turning the engine over, one may not get that 8 VDC, then it won't start.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
