I have everything primed, and ready for color. I used the color reference chart that has the PPG color codes for the factory yellow/ white colors. I took it to Sherwin Williams (automotive division) and they were able to cross reference the numbers into their formula.
The white looks spot on, but I'm not sure about the yellow color I shot a test sample of. I'm not sure if it looks right compared to the tractors I have seen with OEM paints from the early 70's timeline. The paint you see in the background is the SW color, with 5 coats, and it's flattened to a matte finish. It looks really close to what comes out of the spray cans but even that too is very different to the paint on the older tractors. The part in the image is the access cover in front of the seat. I have it bottom side up, and for a direct comparison you can get a good sense of the color the tractor was painted. Do you think the new color is too yellow, or what the paint looked like back in the day? Mike |

that access cover, while not exposed to direct sunlight, has aged over 40 years. Clean with a scotchbrite or magic eraser and you'll see a brighter yellow under the oxidized surface. I think your test spray color looks good. I'd go with it.

Thanks for the replies, It's good to hear your in agreement on the color.
I also tested a spray can of the IH yellow color and that looks exactly like my test. Color ifs a very difficult thing to match, and is very subjective. Mike |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
