Angry Cub Cadet 2072

Hello Randy here I have a cub cadet 2072 super cub. I need information on how to replace seals and O rings in control valve on the power steering. It is pushing oil up out of the steering colum. THANKS I have had lots of International Cub Cadets but never had to deal with power steering on International,

First off welcome to OCC!

second, very common issue. repairing those pumps is pretty darn close to surgery if you ask me. it can be done, but your going to need the repair book and lots of patience. i had a 6 week night mare with mine. i took it to a professional hydraulic repair shop and at the end they gave me back a pump with new seals that didn't work. i actually had to buy a second pump and take it apart to figure out what they screwed up. wound up being they put the little check ball back in the wrong hole. after that it worked perfectly with no leaks.

I am not sure about this being the same column as a Cub , but i am thinking i saved this because someone said a Cub is the same. Hopefully someone will come along and verify if a Cub power steering is the same. Don't tear your column apart until someone verifies this .

I would also locate and buy a SERVICE MANUAL for your tractor. It has pics and info on doing this.

Taking these apart is pretty complicated. If you're good at taking something apart, well organized, and you are familiar with hydraulics.... you should still think twice. They can be tough. If your not mechanical, DON'T DO IT!!

Go on weekend freedom machine site and search for 318 steering rebuild....Same pump...it will take you to a very good link with detailed instructions on how to do it...I did it in about 3 hrs....Very tedious but doable...

The MTF thread is a good thing to look over before digging in. Clocking the metering plate and getting those springs in is the biggest issue. CARFULLY set a rag over each spring after its in, that way if it pops out while putting in the others you won't have to spend 20 minutes looking for it on the other side of your shop

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
