so how many of you put different gauges in your cubs? i have a 1650 that the hour meter is broke. im looking at replacing that with a new meter such as below. im rebuilding my engine know and it will be great to actually be able to keep up with the time. my amp gauge does not look the hotest and the pointer is not centered. from what i gather the amp gauge just shows wich way current is flowing, from or to the battery. would a volt meter give more info than the amp gauge? im not putting any new holes anywhere just working with the 2 i have. i see kirt has a tach but i dont know if that be more beneficial than knowing my hours or the battery situation.

Just my 2 cents but I like a volt meter better than the amp gauge. This is my 2182 dash.

go i got both of these gauges for my 1650 refurb. they look great and american made, glass lenses, real nice. so i will have to do a little different wiring hooking up the volt meter as compared to the amp meter. i dont have them in front of me so i am going off of memory here, and the wiring diagram. so there is a wire comming off the starter solenoid to one terminal and a wire from the light fuse and key switch going to the other one. the amp meter just reads the current flowing across the gauge if im correct. so would i just join all three of these wires together and tap the positive side of my volt gauge off of that and just run a ground wire then?

well my first attempt at the hook up was a failure. i took at tied all three of the wires, red green and yellow to the positive side of the gauge and it stayed at 13 volts. i really didnt think that though well since it is getting power right from the battery. i think i need to bind those three wires together off of the gauge and tap power from a switched source. im thinking the hour meter since it gets power to it only when the ignition is on. here is a pic of the finished dash.
