Default 82 Series Fuel Pump

Hi Guys,

My neighbor lady has an 1811 that has starts to give her problems. I'm pretty sure it's the fuel pump.

Since most of the gas tank is higher than the carb I bypassed the pump today. If it straightens up I'll be sure the pump is the problem.

Question, has anyone done this and simply left it that way? Seems like if she keeps the gas level high it should run fine.

Thanks,

Ike

As long as you keep the fuel level high enough, you'll be fine. Otherwise the fuel pump is something like $35 plus shipping and about half an hour or hours work. Be better in the long run to just replace it.

I bypassed mine and never had a problem. My land is pretty flat so I'm sure that helped too.

Where did you get your fuel pump at? Last one I bought was over $75, and just out of curiosity I looked it up again and it lists for like $83 now. Where did you find that good deal at!?

To the OP, I'm with jimbob and Oak. It would probably be ok if she keeps the tank full. Mine failed a few years ago and I replaced it. But I will run till my tank is empty, and I'm not always on the flat and level. Either way, your good to go!

Did a little digging and found a replacement fuel pump on Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here's a pic of what all comes with the kit:

Fit like a charm and so far it's working great. Granted, it's only been a couple days thus far but still

Ah! It's a Stens pump! Got it. I didn't think about checking with them! I usually think of Stens for B&S parts, but didn't think about them having that Kohler pump.

That's good to know. I am apprehensive on "aftermarket" fuel pumps. ALWAYS. Here at the shop in vehicles, we install ONLY OEM. Too many failures with aftermarket. I have always bought genuine Kohler pumps. So, it's good to know you've had good luck with this pump!

Default 82 series fuel pump

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the info. Sounds like She could go either way. Think I'll leave it up to her.

A local parts dealer has the generic pumps in the $35 - $40 range. If she elects to replace the pump, I'll get one of those.

Thanks again,

Ike

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
