Have a starting issue with my 100. Used it last Friday till main drive belt broke. Parked it in garage, bought new belt and istalled it today. Got nothing from battery/starter. Tried jump starting, nothing, not even a grunt. Battery checks 11.5 - 12 volts. Don't have a clue how to proceed. Could it be starter button? Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks, Martin |

I would suspect the starter button at least it is a cheap fix so hope that is what it is. When the belt broke did it whip around. Check to make sure it did not knock something loose. Next I would check the starter could be that when the belt broke and it spun with no resistence. Something gave loose inside an all ready old starter.

First make sure your S/G turns freely and the wires going to it aren't broken.
Using jumper cables from your car or truck, hook the positive cable to the "F" terminal on the S.G and the ground to one of the bolts that hold the S/G on, or another known good ground. Be sure to hook onto the "F" terminal FIRST then hook up the ground. Upon hooking the ground cable up the S/G should spin the engine over. If the S/G works as it should, then move to the push button switch, hook the clamp on your 12V test light to the neg battery post and touch the point to the lug on the switch that comes from the battery (light should come on) then go to the other lug (this one goes directly to the S/G "F" terminal) touch the point to it and push the button (light should come on when button is pushed). BTW your battery should be around 12.5 volts, 11.5 will probably make the S/G turn the engine, but probably not fast enough to make it start. Try these things and let us know...

Thanks for input fellas, After I placed post, I realized I had new battery in my old '63, so I swapped it out into 100. Started right up, so no need to mess with S/G. I will make sure though, that S/G is charging correctly. Thanks again!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
