In an older post, user "Jeff in Pa" advocated the following approach for engine pulley/basket removal. I just tried it and it works great!
For the clutch basket I used my homemade puller to remove the pulley. I drilled it with a "F" drill (.257 ) {a 17/64" (.265 )} will work and tapped the basket 5/16-18 NC I used a G drill - My normal supplier was out of "F" drills (of course). A G was almost too big but worked fine. I think the 17/64 he mentions above would be too big. Here is a link to the picture he provided: http://smg.photobucket.com/user/JRD7..._5319.jpg.html Just thought I would post this since it worked so well. I did use penetrating fluid for a day or two, then used a bit of heat during pulling. I'm sure this helped too. |

Jeff in PA now makes a different tool that works better. No drilling required. His tool is for sale in the "Resources" section, "Parts sources".

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
