Default Removed motor, now wont start

Hi, new to the forum. Just got a 1250 that needed the axle tightened up on it, so loosened the motor and move it forward a bit for access. It ran and mowed fine before. Now I cant get it to start. Only wire I removed was the cable to the starter and the ground on the frame. I am getting power to the distributor and the starter. Battery is good. When I try to turn it on, nothing happens. Lights work. When I move the pto switch to 'on' and try to turn tractor on, the amp gauge moves and there is noise from the pto. Replaced fuses. Quadruple checked to make sure I dont have any loose wires under the gauge cluster. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Rick

Remove the ground and clean, then reinstall. You could try a jumper cable from the neg post to the grounding point to make sure that the ground is not the issue.

Thanks for replies. I bypassed the switches and can turn the motor over with the starter hooked directly to the battery, so it is somewhere up in the control panel. What I believe happened is when I was grinding on the front of the axle carrier, I didnt disconnect the neg. terminal and caused an arc and fried a point in one of the switches. At this point I am taking the machine to a reputable repair shop tomorrow, I have a few other things I want adressed while its there( toe in adjustments and wheel bearings) Also, noticed that the brake pedal saftey metal flap was pressure fitted to the front of the switch to keep it engaged constantly. Thanks for all the information, really great site!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
