Default Got my new 1250 back from the shop

Hi. Joined here when I first took ownership of my 1250. I did the carriage bolt trick on the front axle, and for some reason or another, could not get it fired back up when I put the motor back in. Fooled with it a little while, but had some jobs on the road to tend to so farmed it out. Got it back today, and I am very pleased. Ended up being some faulty wiring, put in a new ignition, replaced points, cleaned carb., I also had them weld the left front axle, as it was loose, happy with their work, would use this shop again. I mowed my grass(even though it didt really need it!) and it performs flawlessly, steering is drastically improved from when I first got it, I can hold a straight line now. I also stripped down an old john deere cart that was mated to a 318, turned it into an IH cart, maybe looks like a no. 4? None the less, think it turned out decent, just couldnt stand the thought of pulling a green cart behind a proud IH cub.
Once again, great site, would like to meet some members in the area!

good looking 1250. what is this carriage bolt trick? i still have some slop on my front axle. i took it out and drew the c-channel back together a bit but i still need it tighter. i can see the axle move back and forth when i move the steering wheel.

After looking at your pics. Your cart looks like an JD 80 cart. If so, it's worth some money, and they are highly sought after by the JD guys. I remember, you saying, that you got it with a 318.

Trade it for a better one, like an IH #4.

machinehead323- the carriage bolt is an idea I found on this site after doing a search, I certainly cant take credit for it. My axle, like yours, had a lot of play in it. I took a 5" carriage bolt(3/4"),fine thread, grade 8, and grinded the head down to about 3/16" in order for it to clear the oil pan. Once installed, you can tighten up the lock nut and snug the axle up. You have to move the motor out of the way to do this job though, not a huge deal, good time to check the motor mounts out.
Acecil- yes, it is a JD 80 cart, didnt really think about its value to a collector, kinda wish I would have thought about that! Oh well, I needed a cart.

Thanks for the compliments, I love this machine!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
