Default Engine swap - 1200 to 149

I have a 149 with a bad motor and a 1200 with a bad transmission, since the're both wide frames I was thinking of putting the 12hp in the 149. Are there any issues I might run across? Any tips or input would be appreciated.
Thanks

It is not an easy drop in swap kind of thing! You have differing PTO clutches, the wiring is different, for example, 149 uses starter generator and the 1200 uses an alternator set up. You may want to consider a donor tractor or transmission.

You will have to provide for the electric PTO clutch with a switch, wiring and a fuse. Also, the starter is different, as is the voltage regulator. The 1200 has a stator magneto under the flywheel rather than using the starter/generator like the 149. The drive line is a little different, but you can swap the parts you need. You could move the tins and muffler elbow from the 149 and put them on the 1200's motor.

To be honest, it would be easier to fix or find another gear drive rear end for the 1200. They are readily available and it would be an easy swap.

What's wrong with the 1200's transmission?

Edit: DeltaCub beat me too it. Same advice.

Or you could just strip down the 1200 engine, and bolt all the parts on from the other motor. That's the best choice IMO.

Ok thanks for all of the input, the shifting fork on the top right of the trans is broke, and the 149 motor is smoking, so I thought if it was an easy enough swap I would have done it. So I guess Im either going to have to split the 1200 and tear into the trans or pull and rebuild the motor in the 149 just was looking for the easiest solution since I dont have alot of free time right now...at least my 147 that I rebuilt 8 years ago is still running strong but I like to have a backup

I think I'm with J-Mech. I would swap the external parts necessary to configure the 12 hp to work in the 149.

I'm in the process of swapping parts around between several engines to configure one for my 149.

I might take delta cub and sawdustdads advice and try to find another trans for a quick swap and then just pull the motor out of the 149 and rebuild it when I have more time

something to think about here (note to self) I have a 1650 without an engine and a 129 that I want to fix up as my keeper, and know where there is another 129 that would be a good parts donor, (sat outside waaay too long, it's ROUGH, to say the least about it and no attachments either) engine not stuck and has compression..... thought about using the engine off the other 129 if I can get it, for this 1650.... but I never thought about the differences between starter/gen and gear starter..... I have no engine on the 1650 to swap parts from in my case..... hmmm..
My original plan was to steal the hyd. lift and ported pump from the incomplete 1650 and transplant onto the 129..... I like the looks of the 129 better.....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
