Default 1650 motor rail welding

What is the best process for welding of the support brace to assure all stays lined up properly.

Is it best to leave the rails attached to the tractor frame with the oil pan bolted up and complete the necessary welding or fit up tack or clamp and then weld off the tractor?

Looking for input on what works the best to assure all stays lined up.

I remove the rails from the tractor and then bolt the pan to the rails and then weld. Always worked fine for me. My 0.02.

I did this mod on my 1650. I removed the oil pan from the engine an used that as an alignment jig. I think that's the only way to be sure the bolt holes will line up when you're done.

Somebody please tell me how this added brace does ANYTHING to stabilize or add longevity to the motor mounts?

"ppears to me that if the side rails stay tight to the pan, adding a brace will do nothing?

Number 1 problem is the oil pan is aluminum. The bolts don't stay tight. The torque flex from the engine will stretch the threads. Adding the brace helps to keep the rails from binding.

Even if the bolts in the pan stay tight, those side brackets will flex.

Believe it or not, that cross brace will minimize the flex, saving the mounts and increasing the life of the bolts in the aluminum pan.

The technical reason is that a stiffer assembly will only go into resonant vibration at a higher frequency.

The cross brace makes the assembly stiffer, the natural frequency of the assembly is higher. Probably higher than 60 Hz, the vibration frequency of the engine at full speed.
