Creeper noisy
While my S/G is dying, I noticed that my creeper is pretty noisy. It has plenty of fluid in it, but it is pretty loud while running. It has the typical gear type of noise. Do these creepers make noise, or is mine messed up?

Any gear drive I've had with a creeper didn't have any noise coming from the creeper. Most creepers burp or leak out the oil anyway.
 Might be time to make sure its disengaging all the way and the shifting fork's not bent or broken.

It makes the noise whether in high or low. I put HY Tran in it when I put it in and it is burping out some fluid.

90 weight gear lube would be way too heavy for the creeper drive. The service manual states that either HyTran or 30 weight engine oil is recommended. I put 30 weight in all my creepers and they work just fine. But, mine do the occasional burp also.

Well, it doesn't make any noise when the clutch is engaged and is out of gear, only when it's moving.
Another guy thought it might be the bearing on the pinion shaft. Is this a pain to replace? I had the transmission open to clean it and put in new brake shoes. I filled it with Hy Tran.

Does it make the noise in all four gears? What kind of noise, a cluck, a grind or whine noise? Some of the gears get worn and you'll have a whine while running it. My 86 I used to have had the gear whine. Could also be a bearing going in the pinion shaft. Has to be something gear or pinion related since it only happens when in gear. Good luck and keep us posted.

It makes the noise in all gears and really doesn't change pitch no matter what gear it's in. It's more like a whine noise.

I take it that the lower bearings are the problem, since it does not make any noise with the clutch disengaged and the tractor is out of gear.
Are they a real pain to replace? I read that you have to do shims and preloads on these rear ends. I know nothing about that part of it.
