V/R on 129
I got a cub cadet 129 with a bad v/r. I see the ones online that are factory IH replacements and there 60 bucks and up. i see some that are around 20 that have all the same terminals. my question is, if i decide to go with one of the cheaper ones, is there suggestions on what ones to get or if they will even be the same?

My suggestion is to get one from one of the experts, such as one of the sponsors above. I tried the saving a buck deal once. Not worth the headache, and may have just cost me a S/G rebuild.

When purchasing a V/R, the main aspect is to have one with the same specifications and ratings as the original........NOT by the number, or labeling of the terminals.

I found a vendor that still can get V/Rs. He had two prices on his too. He explained that the difference was what the points inside were coated with. The cheaper one would not last as long as the more expensive one but if the tractor is only used occasionally the cheaper one would work but will not last like the more expensive one. He did say what the points were coated with but I forget.

Will it handle 10A, 15A, 20A. or etc. The metal content may be a discerning factor, ie: silver, copper, bronze, etc. If you acquire the IH-545130-R93 V/R, you will know, it's points have the correct contact ratings, and the Cut-in / Cut-Out settings are at factory specifications.
