How can I date a replacement engine?
I just bought a K321 engine that was in a 149. It is black,so I assume it was a replacement engine. I am curious how old it is.Is there a way to find out when it was built? Thanks

Look in the K Series Service Manual. It gives a serial number range for a given year.

Unfortunately,the serial number tag is unreadable. It is not a metal stamped tag,it is more like a decal and the numbers are worn off. So,it has this decal type of serial tag and a plastic grass screen over the flywheel.It has a Walbro carb,looks to be original. Do these clues tell anything?

If the engine is Original, then it would be painted Yellow. If there is a replacement engine, then it would be Black. These are general conditions, subject to change by PO's modifications and painting.
The ONLY way to know for sure, is the numbers off the tag.
