I use both my 70 & 100 to plow with at plow days. Anyway I plow in 2nd gear and in both of them. They like to pop out of 2nd while plowing. Is there anything you narrow frame guys can help me with? Any responses will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm surprised that the guys at the plow day haven't helped get you fixed up already.
Take the cover/shifter off the top of the trans, look down inside and check the wear on the 2nd/3rd slider gear and the gear that the 2nd gear side of the slider meshes with. If they are worn very bad you may need to replace the worn parts or replace the trans-axles. Next check the fork and rod that moves the 2nd/3rd slider gear, it may be worn/loose/bent/broken/out of adjustment or completely out of the grove on the side of the gear. You will also want to move that rod/fork back and forth to check that the rod "snaps" in place when it gets to the end of its travel (the detent ball/spring may be missing/bad or stuck in it's bore). While you have the cover/shifter off, check the bottom of the shift lever, it should have a round ball looking end where it goes into the shift forks. Sometimes the ball end will be worn badly/bent or broken off.

In addition to Sam's post I would replace the detent with a heavier/stiffer spring. Replacement springs can be purchase on a site that sells pulling parts.

On my 100, I had reverse that would jump out of gear. I took the top cover off, and found that the bolt that locks the shifter fork to the rod was very loose. Put the shifter forks into neutral, tightened the bolt, and now it works fine, no more jumping out of gear.

Worn gears tend to like to walk themselves back to neutral. Most pullers add shifter locks, I've seen some use bungee cords that work just as well.

Hey guys thanks for the tips I will see what's going on in there. I had the rearend out not to long ago. The roll pin that holds the shifter in broke. I remember lookin the shifter ball over and it loked good. Ans I remember beving to reach down in and put it in nutrel and I remember it popping in like the detent ball was workin properly. I will try the others and get back to yuns. It might be a while gotta busy work schedule. Anyway thanks again talk to you guys later

When pulling even a stocker will pop out because of the tention placed on the parts internally. on pulling tractor we have to run shift locks to prevent this and eventually even the forks will give up and we have to run aftermarket forks. The spring might be getting lazy as well. Sounds funny but we actually put a detent ball in then the spring on top then another ball on top of that and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't pop out! Good Luck with the fix. Once it pops out the edge of the gear starts to wear and makes it that much easier to slip out next time.
