Default Tiller belt guide
This was on a gear drive tractor that I have been working on and I think it is a tiller belt guide. Although I think it is either on wrong or it is for a hydro? Can someone tell me if how it mounts differently or the right way. Also is it really necessary to have this since I am going to be using a tiller on this tractor?

Dad used a tiller on his 125 and never used something like that, and it always worked fine.

Yes. It is tiller belt guide.

There was one type made for gear-drive tractors and a slightly different one made for hydro's. The one you have looks to me like the correct one for a gear-drive.

Yes. It should be facing down. However, I would remove it altogether if you are not running a tiller.

Thanks sharkyohio, but where exactly does it mount? On the axle or frame? I don't believe there is a place on the bottom of axle.

It mounts as in the pic you have shown.just turn it around.

I really wonder how much the belt guides help. Dad has run his 129 and #2 tiller every year since 1974 without a guide and never has had an issue. I've been running my #2 with my 149 for the past five without and issue either. Makes one wonder.......
