Question 1994 CC 13hp GT problem

Folks

My 90 yr old father moved in with us (he's the greatest) and brought with him his 1994 CC 13hp GT.

When you start up the PTO, the engine bogs down and if you try and move forward and cut the grass, the tractor slows down and doesn't have any power.

shut off the PTO and the engine runs great and the tractor moves around very well. Once in a while, if you shut off the tractor, start it back up and engage the PTO, then there is power and it runs and cuts fine.

My dad is very good with small engines and he's owned CC's for decades....but we're stumped.

Any thoughts??

it would help a lot if you had the model number of the tractor and the deck to help fix this unit

Try this...

Take the Mower Deck Belt off. Now test your tractor to see if the problems occurs by turning the PTO On/Off. If the problem occurs, then you have a PTO problem.

If the problem doesn't appear, then there is something in driving the mower deck. Mule Drive Pulleys, idler pulley, bad spindle bearings , etc.

Let us know what the "test results" were..

We disconnected the main belt. Ran it with the PTO on and it ran just fine. My dad wants to replace the main and deck belts this morning just to rule those out. The deck is off and each pulley seems to be nice and free.

You have something wrong in the Mule Drive or the Mower Deck.

Have to wait till Monday to get the belts. While the desk is off, dad's going to sharpen the blades. More to come!!! Thanks!

New belts did not help. Dad has the carburetor off now. Still bogs down with any load....even with the pto not engaged, it loses power going up hill.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
