Default 1650 vs. 1450 QL comparison

I have both a 1450 and a 1650. It seems like the 1650 has substantially more vibration than the 1450. Anybody with both tractors had this experience? I guess some is to be expected but it seems disproportionately more.

Or did I over-torque the 1650's new IH iso mounts when I did the rail mod? I torqued them per instructions, to 8 ft.lbs.

Quick, change your post!! These guys will fuss at you if you "torque" the mounts.

The bolts need to just be tightened to the same amount of extension of the bolt out of the nut!!

I Will not tell anybody else, I promise!!

I do NOT have a 1650. But I have read and heard, that the 1650 will vibrate quite a bit. I have been made aware of that in many instances.

My experience has been the opposite, The 1450 i had would have you seeing double when you were running it. My brother had a 1650 and my boss has a 1650 and both of them are really smooth Never could figure out why the 1450 shook sooooo bad.

Maybe I'll un-torque (or is it de-torque?) the iso mounts and see if it settles down. the hood rattles a lot, too, and I have some stuff to dampen that I need to install. The muffler shroud sheet metal doesn't help, either.

Just the nature of the beast. The 1650 I had ran like a champ but would rattle you off the seat. That was with brand new mounts and the grenade gears removed. The 1250 I had ran as smooth as silk. Those 16 horses had a lot of bounce. Even my old 169 would sit and bounce the front tires like the old two cylinder deeres. It still had the gears.

The mounts that are in my 1650 are newer mounts installed by the cub dealer about 25 miles.from me and I don't notice any more vibration then my 123 or 124 no matter what rpm. In fact it seems a lot smoother at idle then the two 12s. Now the 1250 I had would vibrate so bad you would have to go to Tue bathroom about 30 minutes into a mow. Even the 1000 I had vibrated about the same as ky 1650. The problem with my 1250 was the little brass bushing in the drive plate on the engine had been pushed out so the driveshaft wasn't centered

Very interesting answers. My 1650 does vibrate a bit more than I would like for it to. It does not have the balance gears. My neighbor up the road has both the 1450 and 1650. He says the 1450 runs smoother and with less vibration than his 1650. I sorta figured the K-341 vibrated because the crankshaft runs parallel to the frame. I have a K-341 in a 1986 Wheel Horse 416-8, and any vibration is virtually non-existant. Its a solid mounted engine, and the crank is perpendicular to the frame. Any thoughts on this???

I almost posted about a neighbor I had in Wilmington MA that had a WH with a 16HP.

That thing would shake your teeth out!!, And LOUD!! I had a K321 powered 86, compared to his, mine was smooth and quiet.

My 1650 with fresh rebuild and new ISO mounts, vibrates so bad at mid throttle you would think your teeth would fall out. But idle and full throttle are good.
I never torqued my nuts, (sounds like a personal problem) for the ISO mounts, just put on new lock nuts and I think turned them down about 1 1/2 threads.
Someone correct me if that's wrong please. But I have read also, it's what it is, they vibrate.
I know you were looking for a comparison between the two, sorry, no help there.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
