I just rebuilt the carb on my 1650. I see the fuel shutoff valve has a screen on the end. Would it be advantageous to plumb in a fuel filter also? From the fitting on the carb and valve I bout 3/8" ID hose. I cant really find any universal filters that fit 3/8". The small engine shop around my house said that all air cooled engines run 1/4" hose. There is no way that 1/4" is going over these fittings. It had 5/16" on it but the hose was swelled out and cracked from I think all the pressure. So, what size hose is correct, and is it worth putting in a filter? If so, any leads on a filter?

IIRR those little red $2.00 B/S filters are for gravity flow and work well.
they sell them in Hwd,tractor supply & mower shops as well as evilpay. I think I paid less than $2.00 for a dozen @ cutterschoice.com on sale. |

And the screen in them has about the same size holes as the one in the tank inlet, so not much is to be gained by installing one, either.

I put a puralator fuel filter from Advanced Auto on my 1250. The parts guy looked through all of the filters until we found the smallest filter that would work with a 3/8 fuel line. Unfortunatly I didn't keep a record of the part number. I will try to check the filter itself tomorrow for a part number.

3/8" fuel line? These tractors generally had 1/4" from the factory. So I'm not sure how you got that to work unless you changed all the fittings.

It had 5/16 line when I dove into the project. The line was stretched over the fittings, bulged and cracked. The shank on tue fitting of the fuel shutoff valve was .412 I beleive. That is machined in one part so that size is unable to be changed out. The carb fitting is threaded I'm but I'd I can't change the shutoff valve what good would it do. I can force 5/16 back on but it will stretch the hose again. 3/8 seems big to me as my truck had 3/8 line on it.

Sounds like someone put a different petcock in the tank. You probably need to remove it a replace it with a stock one that uses 1/4" line. For my fuel filters, I usually get mine at the local green dealership. I just tell them I need a filter for a lawn mower and they give me one. It's clear and smaller than the kohler ones. I personally like them better.

This is the valve
it is the stock valve for the tank. I think it is the stock parts that is still on it. Looking at the other Valves for the x82 series it sure looks like a smaller hose This is the valve for most of the earlier tanks I can't reference the size much as I never handled one.

I have 4 quiet line cubs,1200,1450 and 2 1650's all have 3/8in. fuel line. They are all stock.
