When I purchased my 147 in April the 48" deck on it needed some help with some rust holes. There is a 4 inch hole on the rear of the deck in front of the left rear tire, the right rear wheel bracket is rusted out so bad it almost fell off,
![]() and there is a small hole on the very top near where the IH decal goes. I knew I had to have it fixed. I thought I could nurse it for a while. Tomorrow I'm taking it to my dad's to have the holes welded, so I thought I'd mow the weeds down one more time (no rain here, probably like everywhere else in the midwest). Halfway through the mow of my back yard I see a giant (6 inch hole) and NO wheel. Happily I did not mow it over. Hoping it can be fixed and I don't have to look for a new one. Everything else on the deck seems to be in great shape, and I'm happy with the way it mows (before the wheel/bracket took a dump and it's now scalping.)

With my experience with the 48 inch deck( I have 4 of them ), that seems to be the one bad spot on the deck. That is easily fixed, just use 1/8 inch sheet metal. That seems to be the right size. Don't forget about the baffles, as that seems to be the culprit of your hole.

Baffles? Haha.. IMO they are the 1st things always gone on a deck. I dropped it off at my dad's on saturday for repair; he's repaired 3 of them in the same way. I'm looking forward to getting it back again (if my grass doesn't start growing again I may never need it.)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
