Are newer cubs getting better? The reason I ask, is local deere dealer is now carrying a lot of new cub products from tractors to side by sides. I never cared much for deere but I felt cubs fell off the premium tractor market and now the deere dealer has a ton of cub stuff in showroom and on sidewalk and looks nice.

Although the Cubs are not the quality they used to be, they are still one of the higher quality machines on the market today. As much as many people on this site will not admit it, they will still last for many years when taken care of and used for their intended purpose of cutting grass and pulling a light cart or small aerator or spreader. Yes, the old machines can be used for gardening and other tasks that new ones will not do as well, but there is a larger demand now for mowing machines than there is gardening machines. More demand for them means that is what the manufacturers will supply.

Well, I don't think they will come back to previous glory but, there are some nicer machines out there. I saw a newer cub diesel on Craigslist. with a cat. 1 3pt hitch.

I have an '09 GT2544 and it is a very capable machine. I would put it above any other brand GT in the same class. Especially what you get for the money. My only gripe with the new ones was how the plastic hood opened, but they have since changed that design. I have the sleeve hitch and push blade for mine and it is a very, very capable machine. The Kohler command is a great engine. Yes, there are some areas where corners have been cut to save a dollar, but like I said, if you get out there and start comparing apples to apples in the GT category that the current Cub GTs are in, I feel that it's the most superior product out there.

Being a small business owner, EVERY business has to make a profit or they won't be in business. In the case of CC/MTD they are no exception.
I have a local Cub Cadet dealer near by. He is a small "Mom & Pop" type of business. He use to be big into Cub Cadets. The asset he has, he services what he sells. When I say, "use to be" is because, directly across the street from his business, is a TSC Store. And as most of you know, that TSC sells Cub Cadets. TSC sells the 1000 series and ALWAYS for under <$1999.00. They buy in such larger volume than the local Mom & Pop business can, so they have better purchasing power and selling price. The local CC Dealer decided to only sell the 2000 & 3000 series Cubs. That lasted for a few years when he discovered, that the PUBLIC only wanted these cheap <$1999 deals. Thus, TSC caters to the public by offering a cheap tractor and no service, while the local CC dealer who offers a better series of tractor with service behind it, only sells a few tractors to his loyal customers. Now, you add Lowes, Home Depot and other Big Box stores into the equation, and it is easy to see, the PUBLIC wants these cheap machines. To force MTD to offer a better tractor, STOP buying the cheap machines which will force them to offer something better. Something tells me, that will never happen. Stop into any Wal-mart, any day of the week. The people leaving that store, are leaving with items that are cheapest to buy, regardless of where they were made, or the quality of the item. Price is their utmost criteria. After-all, Wal-Mart is the Retail Leader of the world all based upon price. Moral...........the majority of the.PEOPLE WANT CHEAP.

maybe its the area i live in, premium tractor sales is pretty good. alot of my neighbors have john deeres, most are gt even though our yards are less than an acre and some have a lawn service aswell???? its having bragging rights around here, so to see cub gt's sold at a deere dealer right next to deere gt's im guessing quality or demand is high. why would the deere dealer risk their reputation by selling low quality for a bit more profit?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
