682 Firewall foam sealing gasket - needed?
I have a question for the experts about the foam gasket that goes between the firewall and the engine shroud on my 682:
 I have a big thick foam gasket that doesn't really match the picture but it has fallen off and is falling apart. I can probably fix it but - Is this gasket really necessary? Thanks, Denny

I'm curious about this also. I was wondering if you could use similar type foam gasket like you find at hardware stores.

On my 782 and 2072 it was a 2"x2" foam insert. It had adhesive on one side that glued it to the motor sheet metal. The airflow should come from through the screen on the bottom of the frame, through the engine tins, then exit out the grill (of the tractor). Those foam pieces help control that airflow
When I put mine back together I used foam from Home Depot, made for installing window A/C units, then two way tape.
