I mowed with my 108 last night for about two hours, and when I went to start it up tonight I had nothing. Checked the battery voltage and messed with the ground, wiggled a bunch of old dry rotted wires with no succes. I will be pushing it in the shed tomorrow to really start tracing things down. First time my 108 has failed me in the year that I have had it. I did try byepassing the ammeter, as it seems I have read on here where a faulty meter can cause starting problems. Also swapped batteries just to rural that out. Looks like I may have a big wiring project in my near future. The upside is that I got to mow with my O as it is currently my back up. It does a sweet job, I just try not to use it for mowing any more than I have to.

You really feel like you take a step back in time when you mow with an Original. Pretty fun for about 45 min or so!

Ya, is sure is a big change when you've been using a 10 horse with a 44in deck and a nice soft seat. The original sure does do a nice job mowing though.

Have you tried jumping the starter solenoid? Turn the key on and use a screwdriver to jump the two large lugs. If that kicks the starter over, then more than likely your solenoid is bad. You can purchase a new wire harness from porch electric. Highly recommend that if the old wiring is as bad as you say. You may need to remove the key switch and see if it is corroded and needs cleaned up. Check the Clutch safety switch. If it is bad and has not been bypassed, it won't allow the starter to turn. And also there is a PTO safety switch up under the steering tower. Might check that too. All of this is taking for granted that when you turn the key there is nothing happening at all. No starter engagement or engine turning and just not firing...

Both the PTO and clutch safety switches have been jumpered by the PO. I put a good solenoid on earlier this spring, not to say it hasn't failed. I checked the ign swithc, and it is working properly. I initially thought I had a ground issue. I am not convinced yet that I am getting 12V to the solenoid. The wiring is pretty bad, lots of wire showing, maybe I have a short somewhere. I plan on really looking at it tongith with a meter and I will replace wiring as needed. While I am at it I will look into my ammeter on my 126 that I posted about a couple days ago.

My 100 did the same thing a few weeks ago. It ran fine 1 day and wouldn't start the next. Turned out, one of the brushes in the starter/generator had shattered. Put on a different s/g and it fired right up.

Might want to check your Voltage Regulator connections. When i first got my 108 it didnt run, turned out the wire connection between the starter generator and the regulator, on the regulator itself, was so lose it didnt make any contact. Something as simple as a worn contact like that can stop all kinds of progress!

Got it running tonight. Turned out to be the solenoid. I had an extra that I installed. Funny how something can go out like that. I appreciate all of the suggestions.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
