Whats up everyone,
just looking for some advice on purchasing a tractor. My father inlaw and mother in law are true green j.d. fans. they are driving me nuts trying to get me to spend $1000 bucks more on a j.d. x540. ![]() ![]() |

fonz3482,
Welcome to the site. I don't know much about the green machines. I had one of their 216s. After I looked at the Cub Cadets I knew that was the garden tractor for me. MUCH better built and worth every penny. |

Hello fonz3482,
Glad to have you aboard the forum! ![]() I have one of those green thingys (x485) and the biggest complaint that I have about it is the way the belly mower handles the grass. It did NOT shoot out the grass worth a darn until I bought a set of "special" high life blades, it seems to build up with clipping way too much and if you are not extremely careful when cornering while mowing, you will leave two little strips of grass that never gets touched by the blades. It has the 62" deck. This is why I am working on fixing up Cub Cadets right now! Rob

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
