New Member from Eden, NY that needs advice!
Whats up everyone,
just looking for some advice on purchasing a tractor. My father inlaw and mother in law are true green j.d. fans. they are driving me nuts trying to get me to spend $1000 bucks more on a j.d. x540.  I think i have a sweet deal going on a cub cadet 3200 w/54" deck and a poly 10 cu. dump cart for $7000 w/tax. With my mechanical background i have looked at both tractors. While they are both nice machines I find the cub is built stronger than the j.d. x540. A few pluses i found in the gt3200 is fully shaft driven, where the j.d. is belt driven. Cub has cast iron spin on filter hydro rearend and j.d. has an aluminum no filter rearend. I think and can see the cub being a better machine but the inlaws keep tellin me otherwise. The inlaws say its an mtd with cub cadet stickers, mtd is a poor quality machine, it wont keep its resale value, the mower decks suck at throwing the grass out the shoot, and im gonna be disappointed with it. Just wanna make the right decision on this big purchase, and not have to listen to the "I told you so" speach. Im scheduled to get it early next week and have a down payment on the gt3200. Anyone with any advice or experience with a cub cadet 3000 series or simalar model please help! thank you

Welcome to the site. I don't know much about the green machines. I had one of their 216s. After I looked at the Cub Cadets I knew that was the garden tractor for me. MUCH better built and worth every penny.

Thanks to the few who responded so far.Sounds like i have no worries buying the gt3200.keep the advice and replies coming. I would like to learn more about the machine and implements that fellow owners use on these machines.

Glad to have you aboard the forum! I have one of those green thingys (x485) and the biggest complaint that I have about it is the way the belly mower handles the grass. It did NOT shoot out the grass worth a darn until I bought a set of "special" high life blades, it seems to build up with clipping way too much and if you are not extremely careful when cornering while mowing, you will leave two little strips of grass that never gets touched by the blades. It has the 62" deck. This is why I am working on fixing up Cub Cadets right now! Rob
