Default Front bumper

Does anyone know what this front bumper is from?

It was on a 1641 I bought. Saw another on a 1541. That's the only two I've ever seen with front bumpers.

I don't believe it was optional equipment on either tractor new.

Mike,

Those are standard bumpers for the 82 series and cyclops. I don't have the part number around right now. But they come up on ePay once in a while. I have one on my cyclops.

Default Front Bumper

Mike McKown:

Nice machine! What year, how many hrs and what's the deck size? Add me to the list of Cyclops owners that did not know there was bumper available! It should be standard issue on a Clops!

That tractor is actually a 1641 that I gutted and made a complete 1864. Changed engine, all the wiring, steering, hydro, hydraulic lines. driveshaft and the mower deck. It came with a 48" deck. I put a 54" on it off the donor 1864 which was pretty rough and rusty. The 1641 was very clean with a blown engine, pretty good plastic. The 48" deck is going on a 1641 to replace a 46" that is on there now.

Also bought another 1864 frame that had the P/S still in it, all the lines and the 1864 hydro. I may wind up putting that in the 1641 that I'm changing the mower deck on.

The top picture is the 1641 that donated the rust free chassis. The bottom picture is the 1864 I jerked the parts off of.

Would you be good enough to look over this parts list on an '82 series and show me where the bumper is listed?

My nearest dealer is the original Jacobi Sales in Palmyra, Indiana. Those guys have told me they've never seen a bumper on a cylops. They've been selling IH stuff since the early 50's.

Mike,

Your dealer must not have been paying attention. The part number is 190-398-100. IHCCW has a picture of one on their site under the fender section.

FWIW, here is what I've found out.

I thought that part number sounded strange to me so I called the parts guy. He said the number wasn't a number used by the parts department but a number used for a new tractor order, i.e., those bumpers could be ordered WITH a new tractor but not over the parts counter.

I asked if he could ID exactly what tractors that bumper was intended for. He said his info indicated the bumper fit "most garden tractors and super garden tractors". Same info as that CCW ad had.

Thanks for the part number.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
