Guys,
I noticed, that the new S/G on 100 #2 has a smaller pulley, than the one on Dually. When I start #2, the S/G makes a whirring sound for a few seconds, before it starts to turn the engine over. Could the smaller pulley be the cause? Shouldn't the 10 hp Kohlers have the larger pulley?

I would replace the belt with a great (not just good) quality belt first.
It sounds like the belt is slipping. There is no place in my life for cheap belts, a great one only costs about $2 more. ![]() |

Maybe the pulley is loose on the S/G,watch to see what is slipping when it is not turning the engine over.

Hey ACecil,
Do you have any adjustment left. I agree with CADplans, it sounds like its slipping. If you can adjust it a little tighter and see if that helps. just my ![]() |

Thanks everyone! I'll check the adjustment.
CAD, the belt is brand new. Came right out of the package, before it was put on the tractor.

I have a s/g that the pully split in half. That might be cause of the wirr'ing sound due to lost tension ? Then friction sets in and it grabs and starts the motor.

Definately check your belt tension. If it's cold weather, I found my belt needed to be a hair tighter than normal, I'm using a Stens True Blue belt and it seemed to lose a bit of friction with the colder weather. I snugged it up a bit more and voila I have no slippage!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
