Quick question on the pulleys . Neighbors' deck squeals like a Deliverance pig when engaging . I brought one into work and disassembled it . The large length bearing was good , but Im wondering just what supports the other end ??? Im on partstree looking at the diagram and the only thing Im not holding is the spindle housing cap . What Im wondering is , perhaps the PO installed the spindles without the top cap and this is why the deck doesn't work .

Uh huh . After further inspection .............2 bearings pressed into a hub that I can match up . Sealed bearings ?? No retaining rings ?? Do these cap plates locate and pinch the hub ?

I see you make NO mention of the size or model number of the deck you are working on. This information would be most helpful for an accurate response.

Roland , this is it . Thanks ! Looks like the end caps capitivate the bearing housing and that is the only support .

Your deck has the sealed, non-serviceable bearings pictured here (the posts preceding that one in my thread have more stuff I learned on the spindles and bearings.)
If it's squealing, it's likely the unit will need to be replaced. The replacement that CC sells is for a whole spindle (you can't buy just the sealed bearing new anymore) and I believe the replacement unit does have user-serviceable bearings. It's not cheap...seems like it was around $125. You may be able to pick up a used spindle bearing from one of the sponsors if you want to go that route. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
