Default 98 model 3225

I have found a 3225 cub cadet with about 600hours on it. I have,nt seen it yet but is supposed to be really nice. It has 54 in deck on it. The owner asked $1000. Is that to high or a good deal? Thanks,Brian.

Is the rear end ok in it? You can lock the diff in those and they are prone to breaking and cracking the alum rear case.

Duke

Those rears are ok, not like the ones you, me, and mike are going threw, Someone has to give us credit for trying to put up with them, LOL

1000 with 600 hrs seems to be too low for that. If Im not mistaking those are about 6k machines if they have all the options. You can put a plow behind them snow blowers, tillers. Most al the 3000 series tractors Ive worked on are true garden tractors. Some have a mid mount pto that drives the deck. The dealer in the next town from us for years was number 1 in the usa for the number of 3000 series sold every year. He wont even work on anything less than the shaft drive 2500 series.

Hope it looks good cause those are nice machines! Please post some pics when you get it. Motor alone is worth 500. Oh and some have power steering!

Dont quote me, but if Im not mistaken the 3200's have the cast iron transaxle. I know myh 3235 does. Just carry a magnet with you when you go to look at it.

Brian, For $1k it would be a lot better than anything you could buy new today for $3k if it has been taken care of. The 3225 was built in 98 & 99 and has a 22 HP Kohler Command. All 3000 series have power steering and shaft driven decks but that drive shaft is belt driven off the front of the engine. There has been an issue on some of the locking differentials but if the case isn't broken I wouldn't worry about it. The 3225 has a cast aluminum case. If you are using this tractor for mowing grass you probably won't need to lock the rear. A cat 0 three point was an option so you could plow with it. Let us see some pictures of it.

Default Follow On Question....

If I could ask this learned group similar questions about the 3186 I would greatly appreciate it. I know it has power steering and 54" deck. Does this have the cast iron diff or aluminum. The drive shaft driven by belt? My previous post indicates a higher ($1500) asking price at 900 hours. I think it has an 18 Kohler. Similar feedback please?

JB, the 3186 has a cast aluminum case without a locking differential. I don't know of any problems with the drivetrain on the 3000 series. The tractor uses a driveshaft for the drivetrain and is not belt driven. The differential could be a problem if abused. The pto shaft for the mower deck is belt driven and that is also okay. The belts on the older cubs had to twist a 90 deg bend to get back to the deck and special belts had to be used or a new standard belt would shred apart. When you look at a 3000 series keep in mind that these tractors were in the $5000 to $7000 range and finding one in good shape for under $2000 is probably a good deal. These tractors can also be equiped with a hydraulicly operated tiller and with a flip of a lever you can run the tines in either direction. Look at the junk the box stores sell for about the same price. Just my

Yep these mowers are so much better than new ones. My brother in law gave me a hard time when I got my 1572. It was 11 years old when I got it, in 1998, and I paid 1750.00 and I traded in a 1990 1050. He has been through 3 mowers, a wal-mart, a husky and now has a green mower. You can never beat these older mowers.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
