im having troubles keeping my starter pully on my 169 tight. i lock tighted both set screws with medium (blue) locktite and that didnt work either.
So do i need to stack set screws on top of each other or would it work to get a longer square key and tap it back so it goes up the ramp part of the crank shaft groove so it tightens? what do you guys think? THANKS

Nick
On another board, a member had the same problem with one of his. I forget what he used. I will say that Ive pulled a few of those pto/ starter pulleys and some are real loose and others are nice and tight. I'm thinking that if they don't fit snug, maybe they rattle on the crank working the set screws loose. Just thinking here ![]() |

I have in the past used a square key that I beveled to tighten a pulley. I like the idea of stacking the set screws too. How much play is there between pulley and crank shaft? Do you need to use some shim stock?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
