Guys,
OK, I'm a newbie and this cub ran well so I purchased it. Now I've done the hy-tran service (1650) and the oil service. When I got it, it was running rich and the front grill area is dark with soot. Put a new airfilter in and spark plugs- life was nice. It starts right up and runs well. I haven't seen it burning noticeable oil. So, I changed the oil- it's pretty dark and it has a strong silver shimmer(?). Maybe a few oil changes @ 10 hrs or so. Any suggestions or should I just be planning on a over sized piston and new rod asap?? That amount of metal would surprise me if it was a new motor... Michael |

Michael is it metal for sure? Can you get some to stick to a magnet? What are you using for oil? I would do a quickie oil change to get the rest of what ever it is out of there, 5-10 hrs.

yes,
Lots of something shinny.. I put a 48 oz bottle of B & S 30 wt in the engine. Yes, I'll change it again in 10 hrs or so and see if things are better. FYI, I just got the machine- so I have no idea of what was in the tractor. Michael |

If it were mine, I would flush it with Kerosine or diesel fuel several times to get the "stuff" out.
Tip/jack/angle the motor/tractor to where the drain plug is @ the very bottom so the 'stuff" gets flushed out. then replace the oil & use it and pay attention to any unnatural noises. sometimes folks just do not change oil on a "old mower" we will never know-- Hoping for the best for you!! |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
