Default Need your help... again

The sping that holds tension on the 1450 I have broke while mowing, so no big deal I thought, I'll finish up with that old 122 I got a few weeks ago. (theres just something about that thing I like) Opened the hood on it and was checking oil, ect, pushing on this and that and pulled on the s/g belt and the flywheel moves. I look a little closer and the thing is loose as heck, I think I can see it moving on the key. So I take off the front to get a better look and am not sure how to pull the clutch/ pto to get to the flywheel. I looked in the manusl on this site and can't find much about the teardown for this Heres the pics. Oh, and one more thing, I don't think it will, but will the mower deck off of the 122 fit the 1450.(see pics) The smaller deck gets in between things better. As always, its appriciated.

I do not believe your deck from the NF will fit the WF

I have a deck from my 73 (NF) that will fit on my 129 and 149 (WF). So, it should be possible---note that these are all QA's though.

A pin-on, cast end deck will not easily fit the 1450. Not to say it isn't possible, but a lot of mixing and matching of parts would be necessary.

Talked with the guys in the toolroom at work today, they said the would cut a new keyway into the crank on this. The one guy says he thinks he can do it without taking it out of the engine. The question is, does it matter where the new keyway is cut? I mean can it be 90 or 180 degrees from the old one. Also, since I am going to be pulling the motor, any other parts that I should be replacing? I plan on tune up parts. Thanks

I can't think of a reason why it could'nt be cut anywhere, most cut the new ones 180 degrees from the old one.

It would make setting the timing a bit more fun.

I was thinking he meant the key way on the pto shaft...maybe I read something wrong.

If you mean the key way for the flywheel, not sure about that, never paid much attention to the flywheel, it may be weighted to help balance the engine, it that is the case, I would think you would have to cut a key way in the crank and the flywheel, to keep them in the original position.

Why would the PTO keyway have anything to do with the timing?

I'm feeling a little special tonight! Sorry for the confusion! Back to the little party in my head now.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
