Default 149 Hydraulics repair

So, I noticed that my hydraulic lift was not working as usual. At closer look, I discovered that the pin that connects the connecting rod is missing. I guess the cotter pin rusted, and the bolt fell out. Does anyone know what size bolt this is and what is the best way to go about replacing it?

I think the pin you are missing actually is held in place by the lower of the the 2 cotter keys in your pic. I changed out my complete rock shaft a while back and am thinking the pin that goes in the middle hole has a flat piece of metal welded to it that has a hole in it that actually slides over the lower pin in your pic and is held in place by that lower cotter pin.

So, westofb, that makes sense. I've seen the parts diagram, and it does look like the pin has a flat piece of steel welded to it. Where would I find that part and what's the best way to get it back in? I couldn't find the size of the pin in the diagram. Really tight in that area, for sure!

I can't remember for sure which side the missing pin goes in, but I am thinking it goes in from the frame side, if I recall it was a giant PITA, but you should be able to handle it.

The pin in the middle is the float lock out pin. The float lock out in not used in normal use. Odds are the coil spring pin in #3 is broke.

Normal use:

Float lock pin in place:


The only time you need the lock out pin #9 is for down pressure.

Merk, so if I am understand you and the diagram correctly, the #9 pin occupies two holes?? Is that correct? I put a (smaller) bolt in the hole just to experiment, and the hydraulics seem to work fine. Does that tell me anything?
Also, I don't see the coil spring pin in #3. I love tinkering with these things!

Put a load on it and odds are it will not work right if there is a problem. The lift has some float built into it so the attachment can float over uneven ground. Put some pressure against part #6. Them raise and lower the lift. Does your lift work?

The picture that has "normal use" above it is the way it should be when you are mowing your lawn or pushing snow for an example. It should pivit like in the picture.

The picture that has " Float lock pin in place: " is for down pressure only. There isn't a a good use for the float lock out pin. Some use it when they have a blade on. It is a good way to break the coiled pin in part number 6. THere are 2 pins in lift system when the float lock out pin is in place. Look under you Cub to see the coiled pin in #3.

Merk, how should it be set up for using my Brinly plow or rototiller? Float lock pin in place? I'm not going to use my 149 for mowing. I use the 1000 for that.
