Default 109 engine

Did the 109 come with a specific Hp engine. Just purchased a 109, it has a 14hp someone put in it. They cut the frame to make it fit. i want to switch it to the right engine and fix the frame. Not sure what engine was used in the 109. Any info would be great Thanks, Jeff.

Jeff,

The 109 came originally with the 10 hp Kohler.
I don't know why someone cut the frame for the 14 hp for though?? It would fit in the 109 frame without any modifications along as it was a Kohler.

The 14ph is a kohler, but it had a gear starter on it. They did'nt change the fly wheel cover. Where the original starter bolted up would hit the frame so they cut the frame and bent it out so it would go in.

The 14 hp might have had the wide base block also.

Jeff the model number tells you what the motor size should be 109 the 10 means it's 10hp and the 9 means it's a hydro tractor. A 108 would be a 10hp gear drive tractor.

This tractor wouldn't happen to have green paint on the right rear fender would it?

If it has a gear drive starter, it sounds like it is from a quiet line series mower, more than likely a 1450 since it is a 14hp motor, but I don't understand why they would have had to cut the frame. I would love to see some pics..

I got to thinking, "a dangerous thing", that the cradle in the quiet line series motors probably raises the motor enough to clear the starter and the 1x9 tractors didn't use a cradle. Just a thought. Someone with better knowledge will give some good advice soon.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
