I bought a 129 recently and took the transmission cover off tonight. I noticed the drive shaft is off center about 1/4 inch about 5" out from the flexible coupling. Does the shaft need to be straightened or is this wobble due to the flexing of the coupling? How would I straighten the shaft? Thanks in advance

I don't know if it even vibrates, so I can't really give you advice. it is possible that is it the coupling, but my driveshaft on my 1200 was bent. I put it in a vice and eyeballed it

Is it just a spot that's off center, or is it the whole back end of the shaft? Either way, I'd take it out and set a straightedge along the driveshaft to see if it's bent. If not, the coupler could be worn and pivoting on the driveshaft. The pre-quietline rear coupling was crude in my opinion. It could be worn out.

To go along with what Matt said, if you find the drive shaft bent, then replacement is the most practical move. Either locate a good used one or fabricate a new one from 5/8" rod.
