I just replaced the VR on the 104, and have a small problem. From the top down, the terminals read F-GEN-BAT on the old on, and the new one it's F-BAT-L. So not paying atention, i hooked up the wires in the same positions they were in, meaning the battery wire went to the L and the generator wire went to the battery. Got it hooked up and reconnected the battery and the engine started to turn over. Then i noticed the mistake, so i switched the two wires, and hooked the battery back up and the engine starts to turn over again. All along the key is not in the IGN. So polarizing the bat and gen was impossible . Is the new VR no good now?....Anything else i can try? thanks-Billy

I think i got it. I took apart the old VR and compared it to the new. I ended up moving the wire going to the L, which is my generator wire, to a terminal on the back of the VR, which i thought was a ground. It's all working good now, i think. I started it up and gauge in the dash was in the positive. I put a volt meter to the battery and at idle it's
14.03 volts, and full throttle it's 14.45 volts. Sound about right? Any other ways to check and make sure the VR and the S/G is working right?, thanks |

Insulate and do NOT use the "L" terminal.

Lucky bugger!!! I went through the same scenario. Only thing is when I finally got it hooked up right, the SG won't charge.

A 108, and the new VR is CUB CADET IH-545130-R93. I started to hook it up like
BillyF did, then I remembered reading this post, so I looked up the post and hooked the wires up correctly and insulated the L terminal. So I hooked up the Gen wire to the terminal on the back of the VR, like Billy did. I also thought that was the ground terminal. Now that the Gen wire is hooked to that, I have the ground wire loose that was hooked up to the old VR. I also have the VR schematics you've posted previously. The replacement VR i have is set up for 73/100's, as described by Billy. Can I just tape the extra ground wire? Thanks. |

Attach as per Diagram....
If there is a Ground Terminal on the underside of the V/R, attach the White Wire there.

Thanks Roland. For some reason your diagram isn't showing up. Is it the V/R schematic diagram?
Here is the V/R i purchased, if you scroll down the page. http://www.psep.biz/store/cub_cadet_...ical_parts.htm Now here is the S/G i purchased, if you scroll down. The V/R shown underneath is the same item number as the one i purchased on previous page, but it's $5 less and it looks like my original V/R, with the ground terminal on the side and the terminals on the opposite side read F-GEN-BAT. The replacement V/R reads F-BAT-L, with a terminal underneath instead of on the side. Is it possible i have the wrong V/R? |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
