Default 2284 runs then stops

Hello all,

I have a 2284SGT fixer upper that is running rough. It will start and run for a while(5-20 minutes) then sputter and stop, won't start again for awhile and then repeats the process. If I put gas directly in carb it will start and run a few seconds until it burns the gas I poured in. gas is flowing fine from tank to fuel pump. Kohler Command 22hp

After reading some older posts I am thinking Ignition coils, Carb, or fuel pump.
Any thoughts?

Thanks in advace!

If the coils were the problem it shouldn't fire with the fuel in carb trick. If it were the carb it shouldn't fire after cooling down unless it's boiling the fuel in the float, so that leaves fuel pump in my book. When it is running check flow from pump as a control, then when it dies check to see if the flow is the same. Worth exactly what you paid for it. Some one on here knows what is wrong instead of guessing like me.

Thanks Red,

Hopefully it is fuel pump as it looks easiest to get at and replace!

Tim,

I dont know the 2284 but I think it has the tank under the seat? You might be pulling a vacuum on the fuel tank due to a plugged vent on the cap? I had this issue with neighbors B&S engine - plugged fuel cap vent - it would run for 20 minutes then sputter and die.

Took some time to figure that one out..good luck

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
