Default Doing some miantenance

After I bought this tractor, I did some basic checks and maintenance. Like I said, the cylinder has been honed to .20 over and is running strong. The tranny was leaking a little, so I split the tractor to change the round cork gasket between the hydro pump and the rear end. I drained and refilled the the hydro oil and I also pulled the engine because it needed to be cleaned due to a loose dip stick tube on the cam cover.

The tranny still leaks a little, but I can live with it for now, since I plan to tear down this machine for painting this summer.

Here are some photos:

Default Looks good

Engine looks good, looks like you can still see the cross hatching on the cylinder walls, surely not been used too much prior to your getting it.

Nice work! Engine does look to be in sweet condition, was it that carbon free when you opened it up?? Be looking forward to seeing some pics of your repaint

No. That is an "after" picture of the cylinder bore. Although, the carbon was not too bad at all on the cylinder head and valves.

I soaked the head in gasoline for about 2 hours, then I cleaned it up with nylon and brass brushes. The cylinder itself had a little carbon build-up near the top rim, above the level of the where the rings would be at TDC, but I very carefully polished it up using a small scraper and some 400 grit emory cloth.

I found this tractor back in January while looking for parts for my other 149, so I only got to push snow once with it this season

I was gonna say, how's that possible. Nice job on cleaning it up! Looks great. Man, move on over here to Vermont, had to clean up the driveway today, again! Had a couple heavy snow squalls today

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
