i cant get my 128 to stop surging. the carb was just soaked, blown and cleaned out and rebuilt. gas cap isnt the factor. closed the main jet completly then went 2 turns out and tried it = surging. then i would keep turning it out little by little and get it to stop then i would run it for a bit and it would either surge again or load up. whats the deal here????

maybe something in fuel line between gas tank and carb inlet. could be fluttering letting little gas thru ,motor runs up , pulls more fuel and closes off line then when motor dies it let more gas thru. I have heard of fuel line tubing wall splitting inside causing this too. It creates a valve inside the line and is very hard to find. This is my suggestion- Good luck!

Yes. Throttle shaft is nice and tight. And governor should be all set because my mechanic just had this motor completely apart. That's why I'm so stumped on it???

Is the carb-to-block gasket good? A manifold vacuum leak will do the same thing. Did it work fine before you took the carb out and cleaned it?

Did you stand on your head and say 3 hail Marys?
On a lighter note.Check the fuel shutoff screen in the tank to see if it is clogged,or your main jet needle is not clean enough, try another one if you have it.Did you reset the gov cross shaft? Or did you put enough gas in it,just messing with ya'

Yeah it ran great before but then we took the motor apart cuz the main bearing was squealing. I'll have to check the carb/block gasket. I'll take the fuel line off too like what wiliam said

I didn't even think of this. But I bent the tab on the float that hits the needle and seet. I bent it to put more pressure on the needle because gas was running out. Do you think its maybe not getting enough fuel cuz of this? If I remember right the float is almost perfectly horizontal

Yes, I believe that if the float was set wrong it could cause a lean mixture.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
