What a coincidence! I just made one today! I use a foam material that closely resembles the factory gasket. The foam material that I have was actually a protective wrap that came on some furniture that was delivered to our house....I offered to "keep" it when the delivery guys were going to toss it in their truck. Its probably 1/4" thick, gray closed cell foam that has a blue cellulose sheeting on one side..real tough, pliable material, with just enough sponginess that it lets the plate glide smoothly while turning.

Its worth a shot if you have some material to try it..I know the gaskets are extremely cheap from the dealer..but if you have some material its worth a try. Ive been using the material I have for a few years now and it works great.

good luck,

Jeff (teet)

I had some extra toolbox drawer liner material laying around, so I made my gasket out of that. So far so good.

I believe that is for the metal retainer that captures the gasket along with the gasket....there are 2 different style coulums/gears used in cubs

Scroll to the bottom of this page and you'll see the difference...I usually save the metal part if its in decent shape...

Both of those come with both pieces. The $42 one is for a Lo-Boy or something. The cheaper one fits 70-782 and just about any CCC GT with manual steering, and possibly Original, too.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
