Default CL

Can anyone explain this...

I seen a CL Ad of interest to me. There was some basic information, no picture nor any contact information, other than the CL reply tab.

So, I clicked on that tab and fired off an E-Mail to seek additional information. Lo & Behold, NO RESPONSE.

Now.....why does someone go to the initiative to place an Ad, to sell something they don't want any more....leave no contact information nor respond back to CL...????

Then people wonder why we are so particular in our Classified Ad Section about the proper information needed for the best response.

Sometimes these ads are fake just to get your email address. When you reply it is all it takes to get it,Then comes the spam...
Also some people are just slow to respond, too busy, don't want any spam...

+1 on getting email addresses. Keep in mind also for sellers that the potential buyer doesn't see your email until you respond back. I have a truck for sale at work, got an email of interest, and then after my Admin Asst responded, he sent a link for insurance, and also has her email address for future spamming.

I find that half the time people set their junk mail filters to collect everything except messages from their Aunt Margaret. Ive been in the same boat Roland, usually what I do is switch over to one of my other e-mail accounts like Roadrunner, fire off one from there, and they respond right away....go figure? I say "didn't you get that last e-mail I sent you?" they usually respond..."nope..oh wait a minute..its in my junk mail"...doh.

As far as the scams go...I find the e-mail collectors usually are the ones responding to something your selling...thats when you get an e-mail that says "do you still have this item"....you can tell pretty easily.

Those "too good to be true" ads are another one to be careful of..like the 2009 Kubota 4x4's for $2500...lol..hello!

I've been there too on items. Sometimes I'll hear back a week later on it all of the sudden. Part of it I think is people wait on the first person to reply not realizing how people never show, so they've put all their eggs in the first basket so to speak. So many people now say "I for sure want it" just so you'll hold it until they feel like taking a leisurely look at it that inexperienced sellers probably wouldn't pick up on this.

As for the spam, I've had more than my share of scams wanting money and spam about insurance and what-not. I can pick up on it pretty easy anymore.

I will ask this to take it one step further. Does anyone actually get spam from these? I know many of them must have my email address from responding to them, but I've had the same Outlook Express email for 6 years and never get spam from unknown sources. I know people that have to sift through hundreds of spam emails daily until they change addresses, but I've never had anything. The only spam I get is from Amazon, Ebay, and Heartland America. They just burn up my inbox at times and makes me regret ever buying from any of them. I've even blocked the emails and they must use different addresses to send them each time.

I bet some people do...I sure dont, because I know what ads look fishy, and who not to respond to. Ive been buying and selling on e-pay and CL since both of their inceptions, and you learn to spot a scam from a mile away. I haven't had spam from CL in years...but I know people who do. You must have a good eye too

I only use secondary emails created just for public use when replying to cl ads. This way I only have to check it when I expect something and if I ever do get spam emails it won't affect me.
For my job emails (i have two), one is listed online and the other isn't. For the one listed online I get at least 3 to 5 spam mail a day (I think only 2 on Christmas lol) and the other I get like 1 spam a month.

Have you checked the spam box on your ISP mail box?
I have the same set up as you but instead of OE, I use the built in MacMail client on my Imac and spam never shows up there.

If I go to the mail account with my ISP, ( I've been with them for 6 years) the spam folder there has a lot of crud-mail in it (it's set to auto dump once a month). The ISP spam filters are catching it all before my system's mail client ever sees it.

Ditto on having sacrificial mail accounts for things like online ordering and CL buys. Spamming and Phishing are so prevalent now . . every few months it pays to dump them and create new ones.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
