Danger Will Robinson!!!
I washed the 682 Monday, a bit more than normal due to it being a bit dirtier than usual after doing some woods work. I did wash the top of the engine a bit more also, but still stayed away from the coil and plugs as possible. It ran as it always does (great) when I went to put her back in the shop. I even left it run a while to warm up and dry out a bit. Today I went to start her to do some storm clean up this aft and got nothing ![]() It seems like no spark, would not fire even with starter fluid? I plan on pulling plug wires, fuses, ect and drying them out (if need be) along with checking for spark. I am not overly familiar with the twins, so any ideas on what else to check for?? If anything I am planning on putting a heat pad under the hood over night to keep it warm enough to maybe dry it out also. Kind of stumped on this one ![]()

Run a piece of sandpaper between the points.
Likely a small amount of oxidation from the water. |

My 982 did that after I washed it. I let it sit in the garage a few days and let it air out and it was fine. Mizar is probably correct on the moisture. I was told never ever to use starting fluid in any engine...just my 2 cents.

Well , after a few hours of chasing I finally got spark back. I checked the points they were dry and clean. The wires were a tad loose but nothing even after I snugged them up. I chased every plug, connector, and fuse and all were dry. I still had no hour meter movement or spark.. I took a bit of a break and came back and flipped the PTO switch on and off with the key on and low and behold the hour meter tripped on, so I turned it over and got spark back
![]() Lesson learned I guess..

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
