Got home and decided to move things around in my garage. I wanted to move my 73 GS and put my 41 JD H by my tool boxes so I could remove the brakes. I had to put the battery in the 1200 to move it.I checked the oil and started the tractor and drove it outside to run and let the battery charge a little. It was idling and sitting right outside of the garage when all of the sudden it made a bang and sounded like it remained running for a good 12-15 seconds then shut off. I pulled the plug and turned it over and had no compression. I am betting the big end of the rod went. It currently has a 14 hp motor in it. I guess I'll have to remove the motor and see if just the rod went or what happened...

Wow....you seem to be taking that as a good sport. What a disappointment. At least it isn't coming out the side of the engine and it wasn't when you had it out doing work late at night......nothing like having bad luck happen away from home and having to tow it back whileit is dark out!! It will work out in time!!

Finally got to rip the 14 hp out of my 1200 and found some not so good things...Seems the connecting rod welded itself to the crank and broke into 4-6 pieces but didn't hit any of the block. The 3 pin driver exploded as well so now,I will be installing a good 1250 12 hp motor maybe as soon as tomorrow and getting it back to running. Gonna strip the 14 hp and probably throw away unneeded pieces as we don't have another tractor or spare parts for this motor. The cost would be too much to fix and I don't have the extra to shell out..To think I just changed the oil in this about 3 weeks ago,I guess I should be happy as I got 2 mowing seasons and 1 snow pushing season out of a motor that was in 5-6 boxes of parts we got with a 1450 parts tractor. Wonder how much difference I will feel with 2 less HP?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
